Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet has fuelled talk of a move to Liverpool in the summer window by admitting he cannot face another relegation battle with the black cats.

The reds have been linked with Mignolet ever since news broke that Barcelona could make a move for Pepe Reina, as they looked for a long-term successor to Victor Valdes.

And Mignolet was quizzed about growing rumours he could be on his way this summer, with Liverpool on his mind as he does not fancy another relegation battle

As quoted on the daily Mail, he said: “I am ambitious, and I read the press as you do.

“‘It has been a difficult season with Sunderland. It’s not much fun to play bottom of the League, and I think Sunderland will know they have to change something to prevent another season like that.”

The reds have been linked with a lot of players and it will be interesting to see who arrives. But Reina is going nowhere now, so is there a need for the reds to make a move for Mignolet.
