Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino is ready to wait until January to sign a new centre-back, which has given Liverpool some good news in their quest to keep Daniel Agger.
Martino insists he is happy to stand pat and see how Barca cope during the first half of the season before making any decisions about bringing in reinforcements.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s opening game in La Liga he said: “I just want to make my position clear regarding centre-backs.
“I know what the club was doing before I came here and what they wanted, even with Tito here.
“What I say is that as long as (Carles) Puyol is fine – and he will be because his recovery is going well – with Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Marc Bartra, Adriano or Sergio Busquets as centre-backs, we are fine.’ (Daily Express)
Agger could have been tempted to join Barca and now that will not be the case
